LABEL / not

NOTNOT

The most new avant-garde labels show the same stuff: asymetric cuts, black fabrics and unisex silhouettes. But there is one label, different from the others: Not. You find the concept based sophisticated label in the middle of Manhatten. The style is great mix of traditional and futuristic pieces with multifunctional, graphical cuts and complex drapings.

Jenny Rai, designer and  founder, take her studies at Rhode Island School of Design and strove to experience design from all different angles of the industry. This led her to study traditional artisans’ techniques in a studio in Mexico city, design paper jewelry for a women’s cooperative in Rwanda, and apprentice in the atelier of Viktor & Rolf in Amsterdam. After that experience jenny founded Not in 2011.

The NOT approach is strong and conceptional and the expression very graphical and sophisticated. The AW12  collection 'Clothed Close' is a collection of garments without closures, with suprising cut-outs and strong colour combinations. Inspired by the overlap closure of a pillowcase, garments become self-contained, foreign objects which the body must manipulate its way into.

Have a look on Jenny´s interesting Blog  and the webpage of Not, where you find a lot of things around the label and an inspiring collection of photos.
