Fashion sometimes exceeds the limit between simple clothing and complex artwork. The results of this cross-overruns seem at first glance most intolerable but are usually so beautiful that they are collectables and thus to final art works. A designer working on this limit is Cat Potter. Cat is a London-based fashion artist, specialised in conceptual and wearable footwear. Born in Switzerland she studied fine art and curatation. After that Cat studied at the MA Fashion Footwear Course at the London College of Fashion and she done it very well! In her work Cat combines tradition and futuristic concepts: Her fantastic graduate collection Pernilla combines architectual elements and a very strong association to sculptures. The collection steps out of the traditional footwear context, blurring the lines between footwear and artefact. The result being a series of sophisticated and elegant sculptural forms made from different types of wood (Walnut, Sapele and Pear) that trace the silhouette form of the foot on the inside, diffusing its profile on the outside. Cat is more than a shoe designer, she is an artist who creates sculptures for the human body. Have a look on the whole Pernilla collection after the jump.
