Louis De Belle, color, red, yellow

Sometimes we are drawn to exotic places to find something new. That there is no need to travel to exotic places to find interesting things becomes clear after a look into the portfolio of Louis De Belle.

The Berlin and Milano based photographer Luis De Belle found his beautiful and sometimes funny subjects in our environment and the everyday life. In his series MEANS OR TRANSPORT (SOME FLAGS) transforms Louis close ups from public busses into flat compositions of lines, forms and bold colors. His series OUTSKIRTS' TOPOGRAPHY is dedicated to similarities between the city of Weimar and it's citizens. Quite unusually, that Louis focus on the anonymous places and hidden spots of a town which is well known for it's cultural and architectonic heritage. People are also part in Louis series PANTHEON, which shows visitors of the Pantheon in Rome during summer 2013.

In this series the visitors become protagonists of a play inspired by the philosophy of Søren Kierkegaard. De Belle staged the tourists searching for the the three most important terms in Kierkegaards work: aesthetic, ethic and religious. Every of this series point the aim of De Belle's work: He tries to highlight the strangeness and plasticity of isolated motifs drawn from everyday scenes. He captures impressions for their inherent visual appeal, with a keen eye on serial repetition, frontal and symmetry, following and capturing the pictorial effects on lines and planes.
